ABOUT THE MILWAUKEE AREA WORKFORCE
INVESTMENT BOARD, INC.

Strengthening the local workforce, fueling the efforts of local business

Formerly Private Industry Council of Milwaukee County, Inc. (PIC), this
agency has a long history of linking employers and job seekers. Originally
a department within the County Executive’s Office, the Private Industry
Council became a non-profit entity in 1989 in accordance with the Job
Training Partnership Act.
On September 25, 2007, the PIC officially changed its name to the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (MAWIB) after making the transition from county to city local elected official governance.

We are a public/private partnership that promotes workforce development activity in response to business needs in Milwaukee County. MAWIB coordinates local employment and training policy and administers federal Department of Labor funds.  We create and manage a focused education, training and employment system, involving local educators, program
operators, area employers, job seekers and the employed workers seeking career advancement.

Each year thousands of individuals come to the MAWIB for career counseling, information on current job openings, supportive services and for those who meet eligibility requirements, intensive education and training programs.

Accountable to the community we serve, we collaborate with local, regional and national partners to examine labor market trends and create effective workforce solutions for our community. We provide information and resources to enable individuals to gain competencies, make career decisions, set goals, and take action to change the course of their lives.
