ABOUT THE MILWAUKEE AREA WORKFORCE
INVESTMENT BOARD, INC.

Strengthening the local workforce, fueling the efforts of local business

The Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (MAWIB), formerly
the Private Industry Council of Milwaukee County, Inc. (PIC), has a long history of linking employers and job seekers. Originally established as a department within the County Executive’s Office, the PIC became a non-profit entity in 1989 in accordance with the Job Training Partnership Act.  On September 25, 2007, the PIC officially changed its name to the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (MAWIB) after making the transition from county to city local elected official governance.

In partnership with local leaders from government, private industry and
labor, MAWIB develops workforce solutions that meet and anticipate regional economic development needs. We create and manage a focused education, training and employment system. By strengthening our local and regional
labor exchange we contribute to the prosperity of our individual and
corporate citizens.

For employers we offer specialized training programs and innovative
human resource services to provide the skilled workers they need to remain competitive and contribute to a robust economy. For job seekers, we provide the resources to keep pace with today’s job market.

Each year thousands of job seekers, including youth, low-income
unemployed adults and those displaced from their current employment
due to layoff, have been assisted with skills training and job search assistance. We provide information and resources to enable individuals
to gain competencies, make career decisions, set goals, and take action
to change the course of their lives.
